THE BLOWING OF THE ALPENHORN
Every morning, at the crack of dawn, Boomberlik must go outside of his cottage, stand upon a stump, and blow the alpenhorn. This long tube-shaped instrument evokes a deep and pleasant trumpeting sound when blowing into its cup-shaped wooden mouthpiece. At least, it’s supposed to be pleasant. Boomberlik’s blowing of the alpenhorn has been known to kill fish, cause structural damage to buildings, start avalanches, etc. This noise, reminiscent of a female elephant going through heavy labor, is so startling and horrible, that it cannot be ignored for miles around him. It is in this way that Boomberlik wakes up the village of Strudelhauffen for the start of another busy day.
In exchange for this invaluable service, the Mayor of Strudelhauffen gives Boomberlik a small allowance.
Hey… it’s a living.
